A highlight of the Brandix Group's growth is its determination to to driving its companies and associates to adopt global best practices, even under intense global competition. Brandix has systematically built a framework that proactively drives economic, environmental, social and ethical imperatives that marry into the Group's vision and values. This provides vital support to globally compliant platforms that prompt eco-efficiency, cleaner technology, effective resource use, gender and economic equality, responsible product stewardship and ethical labour practices.

It created a culture of pioneering many firsts that in turn has encouraged the Group to exceed compliance beyond expectations and benchmarks.

The many initiatives Brandix has long implemented to infuse clean technology into its operations have pivoted on the conviction that clean technology can drive its ultimate goal of being a completely green business concern. Working with like-minded parties across the supply chain has consolidated this agenda.

Soaring energy costs of US$9 million annually spurred a group-wide initiative to reduce overall energy consumption by an average of 15 per cent. With the Group now working in a quota-free environment of massive global competition, with rising energy costs threatening global competitiveness, its two-pronged thrust of reducing production cost and improving productivity and quality focuses on creating awareness of cost and energy management, employee participation and linking energy efficiency to productivity improvements.

The success of these efforts at Brandix Finishing, the Group's flagship 'Green' company, was recognized by a Community Leader Silver Award in 2005 for Waste Minimisation Practices, a President's Environment Award in 2005 for Industrial Environmental Excellence and ISO 14001:2004 certification. Brandix Finishing was also the first company in Sri Lanka to achieve "Deep Green Light" status, the highest rating from the Gap 2005 Global Water Program for meeting global water quality guidelines, a rating awarded to vendor laundries on environmental performance, especially the discharge of effluents. Brandix Finishing is also the only treatment plant in the region where all international standards have been met and surpassed.

The company was also selected as a success story in using Cleaner Production Techniques (CPT) in the textile finishing sector. Its case study was presented at the Directors' meeting of National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC) at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Interlaken, Switzerland.
